# Splitting/Merging Shares

How Split and Merge work on Predict: turn USDT into a YES/NO share pair, or combine matching shares back into USDT.

Complementing the regular buy/sell functionality are *Merge* and *Split*.

**Split** is accessible by hovering over **More** in the dropdown on the market's buy/sell modal.

**Merge** appears as its own button directly on your Positions table on the [Portfolio](https://predict.fun/portfolio) page, whenever you're holding a mergeable pair of YES/NO shares.

### Merge <a href="#docs-internal-guid-e79e2cae-7fff-7f97-c8ee-9b07720ec6e9" id="docs-internal-guid-e79e2cae-7fff-7f97-c8ee-9b07720ec6e9"></a>

Use Merge to exit markets where you have both **YES** and **NO** shares.

In every market, the value of opposing YES/NO shares always equals $1. So, when you merge shares, you essentially combine these positions to receive a dollar for every pair.

Note that merging will only rid you of an equal portion of YES/NO shares — so, for an uneven distribution (e.g., 20 YES and 50 NO), you’ll receive **$20 (20 YES + 20 NO)**, but retain the excess NO shares (**30**).

### Split

With the same logic used above (a combination of YES/NO always equals $1), **Split** enables you to *split* USDT into one YES and one NO share in a shared transaction.<br>
